HARTLEY COUNTY, Texas — Tragedy struck Hartley County Wednesday afternoon when a crash on US 87 claimed the lives of four people traveling together in a car. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that 20-year-old Myunique Johnson, 18-year-old Lakeisha Brown, 31-year-old Breanna Brantley, and 28-year-old Taylor White all died in the collision.
According to Texas DPS, the group was traveling southbound in a 2020 Nissan Altima when the car experienced a flat tire and was moving at a slow speed. Around 1:40 p.m., about 10 miles south of Dalhart, a 2020 Peterbilt semi-truck tractor towing a trailer, also traveling southbound, failed to control its speed and rear-ended the Nissan.
All four passengers in the Altima were pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the semi-truck was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by Texas DPS, as the community mourns the sudden loss of four young lives.
Friends and family remember Johnson, Brown, Brantley, and White as vibrant, caring individuals whose lives were tragically cut short. Their passing is a heartbreaking reminder to drivers to stay alert and exercise caution on the road.
Though gone too soon, the memories of these four will live on in the hearts of those who loved them, and their spirits will not be forgotten.
