WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa — Authorities have identified the two people who tragically lost their lives in a devastating head-on crash Friday evening, November 7, 2025, on Interstate 70 near the Claysville exit.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the victims have been identified as 59-year-old Donna Havens of Wheeling, West Virginia, and 69-year-old William Magers of Glen Dale, West Virginia.
The fatal collision occurred just after 5 p.m., when a Hyundai sedan traveling eastbound crossed the grass median and entered the westbound lanes, striking a Ford SUV head-on near mile marker 5. Both drivers, Havens and Magers, were pronounced dead at the scene despite immediate response from emergency personnel.
A woman who was a passenger in the Ford SUV was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, while a juvenile passenger seated in the back remarkably escaped without harm.
Prior to the crash, police had received multiple reports of an eastbound vehicle driving erratically along I-70. Investigators are now working to determine whether it was the same vehicle involved in the collision.
The crash prompted a full closure of both directions of Interstate 70 for several hours as emergency crews, troopers, and reconstruction teams worked through the wreckage. The roadway was later reopened later that night.
State police continue to investigate the cause of the crash with assistance from collision reconstruction and forensic units, reviewing potential contributing factors such as speed, road conditions, and visibility at the time of the incident.
This tragic accident has deeply affected the communities of Wheeling and Glen Dale, as family and friends mourn the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Donna Havens and William Magers — two lives gone far too soon.
