SHREVEPORT, La — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal wrong-way crash that occurred Friday night on Interstate 49 near Highway 170 in Caddo Parish.

According to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO), deputies responded to the scene around 9:13 p.m. on November 7 following reports of a two-vehicle collision. Investigators determined that a dark-colored SUV was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-49 when it collided head-on with a white pickup truck.

First responders arrived shortly after and pronounced the driver of the SUV dead at 9:31 p.m. On November 9, the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 47-year-old Anthony Barone.

The driver of the pickup truck was critically injured and was airlifted by LifeAir to a local hospital for emergency treatment. Authorities say the injuries are life-threatening, and no further update on the driver’s condition has been released.

The crash left behind a scene of devastating wreckage, with both vehicles suffering severe damage. The section of I-49 was temporarily closed as deputies and investigators worked to reconstruct the events that led to the deadly collision.

Friends and community members are mourning the loss of Anthony Barone, remembering him as a hardworking and kind man whose life ended far too soon. Loved ones say he will be remembered for his generosity, good humor, and the warmth he brought to everyone around him.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash to determine what caused Barone to enter the interstate traveling the wrong way.
