It is with profound sadness that we mourn the heartbreaking loss of Dr. Lori Ann Scappino, a woman whose life was defined by compassion, purpose, and unwavering service to others. Lori was an extraordinary human being—confident, kind, and fiercely dedicated to both people and animals. She lived not for recognition, but for impact, and the legacy she leaves behind is immeasurable.
Lori’s compassion found its greatest expression in service to her community. She gave of herself without hesitation, pouring her heart into the causes and organizations she believed in. The South Granville Rotary Club, the Granville County Animal Shelter, the Granville County Animal Control Advisory Committee, and Operation Catnip were just a few of the many that were fortunate to benefit from her wisdom and tireless energy. Affectionately known as “Doc” by her colleagues and community, she played an instrumental role in the Humane Society of Granville County’s spay/neuter voucher program, a vital resource for low-income residents that has served the county for over six years.
Those who knew Lori will remember not just what she did, but how she made them feel. She was someone whose hand was always extended in help, whose words brought comfort, and whose presence brought peace. Her strength was quiet but unshakable, and her heart had room for everyone.
Beyond her work and service, Lori was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, and friend. Her laughter, her wisdom, and her ability to light up any room will be deeply missed. She gave love freely and fiercely—and in return, was deeply loved by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but also a light that will never go out. Lori’s life was a reflection of grace and courage, and her memory will continue to inspire, uplift, and guide those she leaves behind.
It is often said that “a life well lived is the most exquisite work of art.” Lori’s life was indeed a masterpiece—painted with kindness, generosity, and boundless love.
Rest in peace, Dr. Lori Ann Scappino. You will never be forgotten.
