BESSEMER, Ala — Authorities are investigating the sudden death of 24-year-old D’Koleman Juvan Harris, who was found unresponsive inside his cell at the Jefferson County Jail in Bessemer early Sunday morning.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Harris was discovered around 8:15 a.m., and despite immediate life-saving efforts by correctional staff and medical personnel, he was pronounced dead within minutes.
Officials say an autopsy will be conducted Monday to determine the cause and manner of death. The coroner noted that preliminary findings showed no obvious signs of trauma, but a full examination will provide more clarity.
