PREBLE COUNTY, Ohio — A deep sense of sorrow has fallen over West Alexandria following the heartbreaking loss of 20-year-old Shelby Haynes, who tragically lost her life in a crash early Sunday morning, November 9, 2025, in Preble County.
According to Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson, deputies were called to the scene just before 5:30 a.m. near U.S. 35 and Quinn Road after reports of a single-vehicle accident. Investigators say Shelby was driving her 2017 Cadillac XT5 when the vehicle went off the road, struck a culvert, and overturned before catching fire in a nearby parking lot. Despite the quick efforts of first responders, Shelby was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Her body was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for autopsy. Authorities believe alcohol may have played a role, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Shelby was full of life — a loving daughter, loyal friend, and a bright soul whose energy could light up any room. Those who knew her describe her as joyful, compassionate, and full of dreams for the future. Her laughter, kindness, and adventurous spirit left an imprint on everyone around her.
Her passing leaves an emptiness that words cannot fill. As her family and friends navigate this unimaginable loss, they are comforted by the memories of her smile, her warmth, and the love she shared so freely.
Shelby Haynes will be remembered always — for her heart, her light, and the beautiful way she touched the lives of others.
Gone too soon, but forever loved. Rest peacefully, Shelby.
