In Loving Memory of Peter Duane Riley

It is with deep sadness that the family of Peter Duane Riley of Cochrane, AB, announces his unexpected passing on Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Peter was the beloved husband of Vilma Esther (Rodriguez) Riley. Born on June 4, 1958, in Toronto, ON, he was the son of the late Peter Arthur Thomas Riley and Helen Carmen (Mitchell) Riley.

A lifelong carpenter, he was a proud member of the Alberta Regional Council of Carpenters and Allied Workers. Peter was a man of strong faith and a devoted member of both Bow Valley Baptist Church in Cochrane, AB, and Iglesia de Dios en Cristo Jesús in Calgary, AB. His adventurous spirit led him to a life full of activity—he enjoyed swimming in his youth, and later took up skiing and rock climbing. He had a passion for motorcycles and loved the open road, having driven across the country in his truck more than a dozen times. Along the way, he delighted in visiting historic churches and admiring architecture. Peter and Vilma shared a special bond, often watching sunrises and sunsets together. He also had a deep-rooted love for ice cream—a joy he passed down to his children, along with many cherished memories.

Peter is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Vilma; his children, John Patrick “Pat” Riley (Stacie Connors) and Jenny Urquhart (Tyson), both of Fredericton, NB, and their mother, Christina “Chris” Riley (Robert Lirette) of Fredericton, NB; Jameli Myers (Grant Noman) of the USA, Fatima Noman and Nadia Noman, both of Calgary, AB, and Shaun Rodriguez of El Salvador. He is also survived by his brothers, Randy Riley (Lynn) of Fredericton, NB and Mark Riley (Kristy) of the USA, and sister-in-law, Linda Riley (late Gary Riley) of Fredericton, NB; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Hannah Riley, Jayden Urquhart, Jack Urquhart, Jeremy Urquhart, Sophia Myers, Angelina Myers, Natalie Myers, and Simeon Myers. He will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at HopeCity Church, 429 Clements Drive, Fredericton, NB, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 12 – 2 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2 pm with Pastors Dale Riley and Justin Beesley officiating.
