FORT PAYNE, Ala. — A tragic double shooting in the Fort Payne Housing Authority Complex claimed the lives of two young residents on Sunday evening, November 9, 2025.

At approximately 5:59 p.m., Fort Payne Police received a 911 call reporting shots fired in the 1300 block of Alabama Avenue NW. When officers arrived, they discovered two victims inside the kitchen area of an apartment, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Despite officers’ immediate efforts to render aid and the arrival of emergency medical personnel, 27-year-old Alisha Nichole Keller and 24-year-old Logan Cordale Brown, both of Fort Payne, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Following a rapid preliminary investigation, authorities identified 27-year-old Jacob Eugene Mitchum, of Oxford, Alabama, as the suspect in the shooting. Information indicated that Mitchum was traveling back toward Oxford. In coordination with the Oxford Police Department, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, and the East Metro Area Crime Center (EMACC), law enforcement officers located and arrested Mitchum without incident.
Mitchum was transported back to Fort Payne, where he was formally charged with Capital Murder and ordered held without bond. He has since been transferred to the DeKalb County Detention Center.
Fort Payne Police expressed gratitude to the partnering agencies for their swift action and assistance. The department also clarified that no children were present at the residence during the shooting and that no prior threats or reports had been made to the department regarding the situation.
