TROUTMAN, N.C. — The Troutman Police Department is investigating a tragic motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a local man on Sunday afternoon.

On November 9th, at approximately 12:49 p.m., officers responded to reports of a motorcycle accident in the 100 block of Duck Creek Road. When first responders arrived, they discovered a motorcycle and its rider off the roadway. The rider, identified as 34-year-old Richard Pendergrass-Nowak of Troutman, was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the motorcycle left the roadway and traveled more than 300 feet before colliding with a tree. The impact was severe and caused fatal injuries to Mr. Pendergrass-Nowak. Investigators have determined that excessive speed played a contributing role in the crash.

The Troutman Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Mr. Pendergrass-Nowak during this devastating time,” the department said in a statement. “Losing a life so suddenly is a tragedy that deeply impacts our entire community.”

Authorities remind motorists to exercise caution, obey posted speed limits, and remain alert at all times — especially on rural or curving roads — to prevent further tragedies.

The Troutman Police Department is urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information to contact the department as the investigation remains ongoing.

May the memory of Richard Pendergrass-Nowak be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
