AMHERST COUNTY, Va. — A tragic motorcycle crash in Amherst County has claimed the life of 30-year-old Dakota Fitzgerald of Madison Heights, leaving family, friends, and the community in deep mourning.

According to the Virginia State Police, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2025, on Elon Road, about a quarter mile east of Cloudcroft Drive.

Investigators report that Fitzgerald was operating a 2006 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle traveling westbound when he lost control while attempting to pass another vehicle. The motorcycle went off the roadway, and Fitzgerald was thrown from the bike.

Despite wearing a helmet, Fitzgerald sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the incident to determine the exact cause of the crash. No other vehicles were involved.

News of Fitzgerald’s passing has sent shockwaves through the Amherst County community. He is being remembered as a dedicated, kind-hearted man who loved motorcycles, adventure, and the freedom of the open road.
