GEORGETOWN, Ohio — The community of Georgetown is mourning the loss of 30-year-old Kerstin Walker, who tragically died after being struck in a hit-and-run crash earlier this month.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) Georgetown Post, the incident occurred around 8:21 p.m. on November 5 along State Route 286 near Upper Five Mile Road in Sterling Township.
Troopers say Walker was walking along the roadway when she was struck by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene before emergency responders arrived.
First responders located Walker lying off to the side of the road suffering from severe injuries. She was airlifted by Air Care to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she passed away on November 11, despite days of intensive medical treatment.
At the scene, investigators recovered a broken side mirror believed to belong to a Chevrolet or GMC full-size pickup truck, possibly from the passenger side. Authorities believe the vehicle involved likely sustained visible damage and is missing its mirror.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. OSHP troopers are reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and examining evidence to identify the driver responsible. They are urging anyone who may have seen a damaged pickup truck in the area that night or who has dash camera footage from November 5 to contact the Georgetown Post at (937) 378-6191. In a statement, the Ohio State Highway Patrol expressed condolences to Walker’s family and reaffirmed their commitment to justice:
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy for Ms. Walker’s loved ones and our community. We are doing everything possible to identify the individual responsible and bring them to justice.”
Residents of Sterling Township have expressed deep sorrow and outrage following the incident, describing Walker as a kind, joyful, and compassionate woman whose loss has left a void in the hearts of many.
“She was full of life, always smiling, and always willing to help,” one friend shared on social media. “She didn’t deserve this — no one does. We just want answers and justice for Kerstin.”
Local safety advocates have also called attention to the dangers pedestrians face on rural roads, especially after dark. They are urging drivers to remain alert, slow down, and never leave the scene of an accident, no matter the circumstances.
Under Ohio law, leaving the scene of a crash resulting in serious injury or death is a felony offense, and authorities have made it clear that they will pursue every lead until the driver is found.
Walker’s family continues to receive support from relatives, friends, and neighbors as they mourn her untimely passing. Plans for a memorial service are expected to be announced soon.
For now, investigators remain focused on finding the person responsible and ensuring justice is served.
“We will not rest until every fact is uncovered and the driver is held accountable,” OSHP officials said. “Our hearts go out to Kerstin’s family as they navigate this devastating loss.”
The Georgetown community continues to remember Kerstin Walker — a young woman whose light was taken far too soon. Her loved ones hope that through justice and awareness, no other family will have to endure such pain.
