PORTLAND, Conn. — Authorities are investigating a tragic head-on collision that occurred Tuesday night, November 11, 2025, on the Arrigoni Bridge, claiming the life of a Middletown man and leaving another driver injured.

According to the Portland Police Department, officers responded to reports of a serious crash at approximately 8:43 p.m. on the Portland side of the bridge.

Upon arrival, first responders found two heavily damaged vehicles — a red Subaru and a black Ford Escape — involved in a head-on collision.

The driver of the Subaru, identified as 70-year-old Jozef Baran (DOB 03/19/1955) of Middletown, was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Ford Escape, identified as 31-year-old Angela Grammatico (DOB 01/08/1994) of Portland, was transported to Hartford Hospital with unspecified injuries. Her current condition has not been disclosed.

The Portland Police Department has confirmed that the investigation remains active, and no additional details are being released at this time.
