It is with heavy hearts that the Dallas County community mourns the tragic loss of 63-year-old Laura Keasey of Dallas Center, who was killed in a crash Wednesday morning at the intersection of Highway 44 and J Avenue.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred around 8:35 a.m. when a 2009 semi-truck, driven by 69-year-old Edward Swinger of Redfield, failed to stop at the intersection and struck Keasey’s 2009 Toyota Scion as she traveled westbound along Highway 44. Despite wearing her seatbelt and prompt emergency response, Keasey sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
First responders from the Adel Fire Department, Dallas County EMS, and the Iowa State Patrol worked tirelessly at the scene, but the tragic outcome left the entire community shaken. The roadway was closed for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the site of the crash.
Those who knew Laura Keasey describe her as a gentle, compassionate woman who deeply loved her family and community. She was someone who carried kindness wherever she went — a friend who listened, a neighbor who cared, and a soul whose warmth touched the lives of many.
“She was one of those people who made life a little brighter,” said one Dallas Center resident. “Her smile could turn an ordinary day into something better.”
As the investigation continues, friends and loved ones have begun sharing memories and condolences, expressing their heartbreak over such a sudden and devastating loss. In the quiet streets of Dallas Center, the absence of her presence is already felt deeply.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office extended appreciation to everyone who assisted at the scene and reminded drivers to remain cautious at intersections, where even a moment’s mistake can lead to tragedy.
💐 Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Laura Keasey during this difficult time. May they find comfort in the outpouring of love and support surrounding them, and may Laura’s beautiful spirit live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Gone too soon, but never forgotten.
