REMEMBERING CHASE CHILDERS

Chase Childers, of Dallas, Georgia, lived a life marked by courage, compassion, and service. On Sunday, his final act of bravery would etch his name forever in the hearts of those who knew him — and in the legacy of true heroes.

Chase wasn’t just any man. He was a former professional baseball player with the Baltimore Orioles. A decorated Cobb County police officer who had previously received a Life Saving Award. A talented fisherman. A gifted builder. But these titles pale in comparison to the roles he cherished most — that of a devoted husband, loving father, son, brother, and loyal friend.

He and his wife Nataley had a rare love — the kind that starts in middle school and weathers life’s seasons side by side. Together, they built a beautiful family with three beloved children.

Tragically, it was in the act of protecting another family that Chase made his final stand. While vacationing at Pawleys Island, South Carolina, Chase saw a family of five caught in a powerful rip current. Without hesitation, he ran into the water — driven by his first responder instincts and an unwavering sense of duty to help others.

With the help of another bystander, Chase successfully rescued the struggling family. But the ocean, relentless and cruel, had other plans. Chase was pulled under by the current. Despite an intensive search effort, his body was recovered by the Coast Guard nearly 90 minutes later.

He died as he lived — putting others first.

His heroism was not abstract or ceremonial. It was immediate, sacrificial, and profoundly human. His wife and children witnessed the ultimate measure of his love — not just for them, but for people he had never even met.

Chase Childers is a name that deserves to be remembered. For his bravery. For his heart. For the life he lived and the lives he saved.

He is a reminder that real heroes walk among us — and sometimes, they run into the waves.
