Missing St. Johns County Woman Found Dead After Disappearance in Ponte Vedra Beach


PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The search for a missing St. Johns County woman has ended in tragedy. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) confirmed that 79-year-old Phyllis Atkins was found deceased on Wednesday evening after she was reported missing earlier that day. Authorities have stated that no foul play is suspected in her death.

Atkins was last seen around 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, walking her dog in the Blue Seas Court area of Ponte Vedra Beach. Surveillance video released by SJSO showed her leaving her home at 10:22 a.m., wearing a brown and pink dress with flip-flops.

The community was alerted shortly after her disappearance, and a search was launched by deputies and volunteers. By 5:37 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office announced that Phyllis had been located. A later update at 8:30 p.m. confirmed the heartbreaking news of her passing.

The circumstances of her death remain under investigation, but there is currently no indication of suspicious activity. Officials have not released further details at this time.

The St. Johns County community mourns the loss of Phyllis Atkins, a woman remembered by neighbors as kind and gentle, often seen walking her dog and enjoying the peaceful streets of her neighborhood.
