Heartbreaking Death at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility

It is with deep sadness that we report the tragic passing of Marcus Mallett, who died on July 17, 2025, at the age of just 36 while incarcerated at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility (CMCF). Marcus’s death comes after a prolonged battle with chronic kidney disease, a condition that posed daily challenges and ultimately claimed his life.

Marcus’s passing is a sobering reminder of the urgent need for consistent, compassionate, and quality healthcare within correctional institutions. His death highlights the critical importance of ensuring that every individual under the supervision of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC), especially those suffering from chronic and life-threatening illnesses, receives the medical care and attention they deserve.

Though Marcus’s life was cut short, his story should not be forgotten. He was more than his circumstances — he was a son, a friend, and a human being who fought bravely against the hardships he faced. His untimely death has left a profound impact on those who knew and loved him.

We extend our sincerest and most heartfelt condolences to Marcus’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts are with them as they mourn the loss of a beloved life taken too soon. May Marcus be remembered not by the walls that surrounded him, but by the love that those close to him carry in their hearts.

May he rest in peace, and may his memory serve as a call for greater compassion and justice for all individuals in the correctional system.
