It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Jianzhong Tan, 60, of Chicago, Illinois, who tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on the morning of Wednesday, July 16, 2025. The incident occurred along Interstate 94 in Northbrook, in an active construction zone just north of Dundee Road.
Jianzhong was a passenger in a Toyota Sienna minivan when the vehicle crashed around 10:42 a.m. Illinois State Police and Northbrook Fire Department responded swiftly to the scene, where they discovered the vehicle with significant damage. Jianzhong was transported to Endeavor Health Highland Park Hospital, but despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed that his death was the result of blunt force trauma sustained in the crash.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. While no other vehicles were involved, officials have not yet ruled out potential contributing factors such as distraction or speeding. The crash serves as a solemn reminder of the dangers posed by construction zones and the need for heightened caution in such areas.
