It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robbie Pardlo, cherished singer, songwriter, and founding member of the R&B trio City High, who died on Thursday, July 17, at the age of 46. According to sources close to the family, Robbie was hospitalized earlier in the week due to complications from heart failure. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
Robbie Pardlo was more than a talented musician — he was a voice of honesty, resilience, and compassion. With a vocal style that blended soul, pain, and hope, Robbie brought raw emotion to every lyric he delivered. Before stepping into the spotlight with City High, Robbie lent his voice to Whitney Houston’s 1999 hit, “My Love Is Your Love,” a track that soared to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved double platinum status. It was a sign of the greatness to come.
In the early 2000s, Robbie’s career reached new heights as a member of City High, alongside Claudette Ortiz and Ryan Toby. Their debut single, “What Would You Do?” struck a powerful chord with audiences for its unflinching portrayal of real-life struggles. The song became a cultural touchstone, peaking in the Billboard Top 10 and earning the group a Grammy nomination. Their self-titled album, released in 2001, produced additional hits including “Caramel” (featuring Eve) and “City High Anthem,” leaving a lasting impact on R&B and hip-hop.
Behind the fame, however, Robbie faced personal struggles. After a difficult breakup and the disbanding of City High, he battled alcoholism — a challenge he courageously confronted on the A&E series Intervention in 2010. His candid appearance on the show was a testament to his strength, vulnerability, and deep love for his daughter, Lyric, who remained his guiding light through his darkest moments.
Robbie’s story was one of immense talent, hard-won redemption, and a heart that never stopped feeling deeply. He leaves behind a legacy not only through his music, but also through the lives he touched with his authenticity and his fight to rise above pain.
He is survived by his beloved daughter Lyric Pardlo, his family, and countless fans across the world who found hope and healing in his music. His voice, his honesty, and his spirit will never be forgotten.
Rest easy, Robbie. Your music lives on, and so does your light.
