Fatal Crash in Laredo Claims Life of 24-Year-Old Miguel Angel Lopez

LAREDO, TX — The Laredo Police Department has identified Miguel Angel Lopez, 24, as the driver who tragically lost his life in a crash early Saturday morning, July 19, 2025.

The incident began around 3:00 a.m. when officers attempted to stop a black four-door Hyundai that was reportedly being driven recklessly along Lomas Del Sur and Zapata Highway. As officers approached the vehicle to initiate a traffic stop, the driver suddenly accelerated and fled the area at a high rate of speed.

Moments later, police were dispatched to a crash at the intersection of Highway 83 and Wooster, where the same vehicle had struck a utility pole. The impact caused live power lines to fall in the area. Lopez, who was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have confirmed that Lopez was not being actively pursued by police at the time of the collision. Preliminary findings indicate the crash occurred shortly after the initial attempted stop, and the circumstances remain under investigation by Laredo Police.

The tragic loss of Miguel Angel Lopez has deeply affected his family, friends, and the community. His life was cut short in a moment that serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of safe roadway practices.

Our deepest condolences go out to Miguel’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. May he rest in peace.
