Florissant Man Drowns in Lake of the Ozarks After Kayak Overturns

MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. — Tragedy struck Saturday morning at the Lake of the Ozarks, where a 50-year-old man from Florissant, Missouri, drowned after his kayak overturned, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).

The incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. near Possum Hollow Cove at the .3 mile marker of the Gravois arm of the lake. According to the MSHP drowning report, the man was kayaking when his vessel overturned. He failed to resurface, prompting an emergency response.

A diving team was dispatched to the scene and later recovered the victim from the water. The Morgan County Coroner arrived on scene and officially pronounced the man deceased.

Authorities have not released the identity of the victim, but they confirmed that next of kin have been notified.

The incident is under investigation by MSHP Troop F, which oversees several counties in central Missouri. Saturday’s drowning marks the third water-related fatality reported this year within Troop F’s jurisdiction.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is reminding all lake visitors to exercise caution and use proper safety equipment, especially when participating in water activities like kayaking.
