SAN ANTONIO, TX — The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed Friday night while walking along a restricted section of Interstate 35. The victim has been confirmed as 51-year-old Gilberto Hernandez-Munoz.
According to authorities, the tragic incident occurred around 9:20 p.m. in the 7000 block of the I-35 South northbound main lanes—an area where pedestrian access is prohibited. Hernandez-Munoz was walking north in the lanes of traffic when he was struck by a 2020 Ford EcoSport traveling in the same direction.
Emergency responders pronounced Hernandez-Munoz dead at the scene. The medical examiner’s office has ruled his death accidental, citing blunt force injuries as the cause.
The driver of the Ford EcoSport immediately stopped, rendered aid, and fully cooperated with the police investigation. Officials have confirmed that no criminal charges are pending in connection with the incident.
Gilberto Hernandez-Munoz’s untimely death has brought sorrow to his loved ones and serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of walking along high-speed roadways not designated for pedestrian use. His family is now mourning the loss of a man whose life ended far too soon.
