BOYNTON BEACH, FL — Florida State Representative Joe Casello, a dedicated public servant and longtime community advocate, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2025, at the age of 73 following a heart attack. He was surrounded by his girlfriend and loved ones at the time of his passing, according to a statement from the Florida House Democratic Caucus.
Born with a servant’s heart and a deep commitment to the well-being of others, Rep. Casello’s journey into public life began long before his tenure in Florida politics. He served with distinction as a firefighter in Worcester, Massachusetts, for over 30 years, dedicating his life to protecting lives and property.
After relocating to Florida, Casello continued his legacy of service, first as a Boynton Beach City Commissioner and later as a member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing his Boynton Beach district after his election in 2018. Known for his passion for public safety, community development, and working-class families, Casello earned the respect and admiration of constituents across party lines.
In addition to his work in Tallahassee, Casello recently announced his intention to run for a seat on the Palm Beach County Commission in 2026, a testament to his unwavering dedication to public service.
The Florida House Democratic Caucus praised Casello for his tireless commitment and expressed their deepest sympathies, stating, “The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their love and support during this difficult time.”
Rep. Casello’s passing leaves a significant void in Florida’s legislative community. As required under state law, Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to call a special election to fill the vacancy.
Joe Casello’s life was one of courage, leadership, and selfless devotion to the people he served. His legacy will live on through the policies he championed, the lives he touched, and the community he helped to build.
