‘He Had a Ball With Life’: Taylor Community Mourns the Loss of 14-Year-Old Trey Kimber, Days Before His 15th Birthday

TAYLOR, MI — A heartbreaking wave of grief has swept through the Taylor community following the tragic shooting death of 14-year-old Trey Kimber, who was just days away from celebrating his 15th birthday. Trey’s life was senselessly cut short on Saturday night, July 19, during a violent incident near Eureka Road and Pine Street, leaving his family and loved ones devastated.

According to Taylor Police, the shooting occurred around 9 p.m. after an argument broke out between Trey and a group of three to four individuals. In a moment that turned deadly, someone in the group pulled out a firearm and opened fire, fatally wounding the young teen. Despite emergency response efforts, Trey was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. As of now, no suspects are in custody, and police are continuing to investigate.

Trey’s family described him as a joyful, full-of-life teenager who approached every day with energy, humor, and kindness.

“He had a ball with life,” a family member shared. “Trey could make anyone laugh. He loved his friends, his family, and was always the life of the party, even at just 14.”

Trey was known for his warm heart, playful spirit, and vibrant personality. Whether it was riding his bike, hanging out with friends, or simply enjoying family gatherings, Trey embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. His sudden and violent death has left a painful void in the hearts of those who knew him.

As investigators work to bring justice to Trey and his family, community members have been gathering to mourn his loss, creating makeshift memorials and calling for an end to the violence that has claimed far too many young lives.

A candlelight vigil and memorial service are expected to be announced in the coming days as loved ones prepare to celebrate the life of a young soul taken far too soon.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Taylor Police or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Rest in peace, Trey Kimber. You will be forever remembered for your bright smile, kind heart, and the joy you brought to everyone around you.
