Authorities are investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of 24-year-old Angel Benkelman late Sunday night in south Phoenix.
Emergency responders were dispatched around 11:50 p.m. to the area of 19th Avenue and Broadway Road, where they discovered an unconscious woman lying in the roadway. Fire personnel provided immediate medical care before transporting her to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The victim was identified as Angel Benkelman. According to police, the vehicle involved had fled the scene prior to their arrival. Efforts to locate witnesses or surveillance footage have so far been unsuccessful, and officials are awaiting a report from the Office of the Medical Examiner.
