Ismael David Hernandez-Pernia Obituary & Tragic Motorcycle Accident in Katy

KATY, Texas — The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has identified 25-year-old Ismael David Hernandez-Pernia as the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred early Monday morning in Katy. Hernandez-Pernia lost his life after falling approximately 90 feet from an elevated connector ramp.

The crash happened around 3:40 a.m. as Hernandez-Pernia was riding a black 2025 Kawasaki Ninja 500 eastbound on the Katy Freeway. The incident occurred on the elevated ramp connecting Interstate 10 to Highway 99 (Grand Parkway South). According to investigators, Hernandez-Pernia was navigating a right-hand curve when he lost control, struck a concrete barrier, and was thrown from his motorcycle. He fell from the elevated structure and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passing motorist spotted the motorcycle lying near the barrier and alerted emergency services. Responding units located Hernandez-Pernia at the bottom of the ramp with no signs of life.

His death was one of several serious motorcycle-related accidents reported in Harris County that same morning. In a nearby, unrelated crash, another motorcyclist wrecked in the managed lanes of the Katy Freeway near Park Ten Boulevard. That crash caused traffic delays but was not fatal, authorities said.

Elsewhere, in Atascocita, deputies responded to a separate deadly motorcycle accident involving 29-year-old Triston Dale, who was riding a 2007 Yamaha when he collided with a Jeep on Atascocita Road. Investigators believe speed may have been a factor in that incident. Dale died at the scene, while the Jeep’s driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

These incidents mark a sobering start to the week on Harris County roads, particularly for the motorcycle community. Authorities have not yet released full details on the contributing factors in these crashes, and investigations remain ongoing.

Officials urge all motorists—especially motorcyclists—to drive with caution, particularly on elevated ramps and during early morning hours when visibility and alertness may be reduced. Proper lane discipline and adherence to speed limits are critical to preventing tragic outcomes.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate and asks anyone with information about these crashes to come forward. Meanwhile, the families and loved ones of Hernandez-Pernia and Dale are mourning profound and heartbreaking losses.
