Bryan Kohberger ‘Disfigured’ Kaylee Goncalves, Fled After Violent Struggle with Xana Kernodle, Say Newly Released Police Reports

Shocking new details have emerged in the University of Idaho murder investigation, as the Moscow Police Department released hundreds of previously sealed documents related to the case against Bryan Kohberger, the man accused of brutally killing four students in November 2022.

According to the newly unsealed reports, Kohberger inflicted devastating injuries on victims Kaylee Goncalves and Xana Kernodle, including disfiguring Goncalves’ face and engaging in a prolonged, violent struggle with Kernodle before her death.

Officer Corbin Smith reported that Kaylee Goncalves was stabbed so many times and with such force that her face was left “disfigured,” to the point where surviving roommate Dylan Mortensen was unable to correctly identify her at the scene.

In the case of Xana Kernodle, the documents paint a harrowing picture of her final moments. Sgt. Shaine Gunderson noted in his report that “an intense struggle had occurred” in her bedroom. Kernodle reportedly fought back fiercely, with “defensive wounds” and deep lacerations between her fingers—clear signs that she tried to fend off her attacker.

Despite the chaos and brutality, Kohberger allegedly fled the scene after the killings, passing Mortensen on his way out through the second-floor sliding glass door. Mortensen told authorities she saw a masked man dressed in black exit the home, carrying what she thought may have been a package.

Interestingly, police records make no mention of the fast food order Kernodle had received shortly before the murders—an omission that may be significant, as Mortensen’s sighting of Kohberger carrying an item might relate to that delivery.

These new revelations add chilling detail to an already disturbing case and raise further questions about the timeline of the crime and what Mortensen may have witnessed that night. The case against Kohberger, who has pleaded not guilty, is ongoing, with a trial date still pending as prosecutors weigh whether to pursue the death penalty.
