CARMEL, CA – The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in a tragic and disturbing suspected murder and attempted suicide that unfolded early Thursday morning in the High Meadows community of Carmel.
The victim has been identified as Barbara Lynn Geisen, 78, a longtime resident of Carmel.
At approximately 4:22 a.m. on July 24, 2025, a man placed a chilling 911 call, stating that he had just murdered his wife. Deputies and emergency medical personnel immediately responded to the residence located in the 3700 block of Raymond Way.
Upon arrival, responders discovered both a male and a female in a bedroom. Barbara Geisen was found unresponsive, having suffered multiple stab wounds, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The male, who has not yet been publicly identified, was found nearby with self-inflicted, life-threatening stab wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Authorities have not released further details about the relationship between the individuals beyond the 911 caller’s reference to the victim as his wife. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the case and has not yet announced any charges.
This tragedy has deeply shaken the Carmel community. Neighbors in the typically quiet and peaceful High Meadows area expressed shock and heartbreak as they processed the devastating news.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are urging the public to withhold speculation as they work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this incident.
