Tragic Loss: 17-Year-Old Reginald Pope Fatally Shot in Birmingham’s Gate City Community

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham community is mourning the heartbreaking and untimely death of 17-year-old Reginald Pope, who was found fatally shot Wednesday morning in the Gate City housing community.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on July 25, officers from the Birmingham Police Department’s East Precinct responded to the 7500 block of 67th Court Way South after receiving reports of a person shot. Upon arrival, police discovered Reginald unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced the teen deceased at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicates that multiple individuals may have been inside the residence at the time of the shooting. Authorities confirmed that a person of interest was transported to the Birmingham Police Headquarters for questioning. However, the incident has not yet been formally classified as a homicide, and investigators continue to work to determine the exact circumstances that led to Reginald’s death.
