MINNEAPOLIS — A man identified as Justin Marshall, believed to be in his 30s, was fatally shot early Friday morning in a violent incident that has sparked a homicide investigation by the Minneapolis Police Department.
At approximately 2:33 a.m. on Friday, officers responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Lyndale Avenue South. When police arrived, they found Marshall suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Preliminary details from the investigation reveal that Marshall was engaged in a conversation with someone inside a vehicle just before the shooting occurred. At some point, the suspect reportedly exited the vehicle and shot Marshall before fleeing the scene. No suspect description or vehicle information has been released publicly at this time.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara released a statement in response to the tragedy, saying:
“We as a community cannot accept this violence and tragedy as normal. Investigators are working diligently to follow up on leads and learn what led up to this tragic shooting. If anyone has any information about this tragedy, please provide it to our investigators.”
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine and release the official cause and manner of death following an autopsy.
