Massachusetts — Authorities are continuing to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Friday, following a reported shoplifting incident at a local mall involving a juvenile suspect.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the scene after mall security alerted authorities to a suspected shoplifting attempt. Upon arriving, officers encountered a juvenile male who was allegedly involved in the theft. During the confrontation, an exchange of gunfire occurred between the suspect and a responding police officer.
The juvenile suspect was reportedly struck and sustained injuries. Emergency medical personnel responded, and the suspect was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The condition of the juvenile has not been publicly released at this time. The police officer involved was not seriously injured.
The incident prompted a heavy police presence at the mall and temporarily placed the surrounding area on lockdown while authorities secured the scene.
