CHARLOTTE, NC – Authorities have released new information regarding a devastating collision that occurred Saturday morning, July 26, 2025, on the outer loop of Interstate 485 in west Charlotte, resulting in six fatalities and one injury.
Samuel Holmes, 27, and Taylor Willis, 23, were among the victims killed in the tragic crash. The accident took place around 11 a.m. between Wilkinson Boulevard and West Boulevard.
According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers, a Honda CRV driven by Logan Sauer, 16, of Mooresville, was traveling in the middle lane when it veered into the right lane, striking a Chrysler van. The impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway and crash into a parked tractor-trailer.
Logan Sauer, the sole occupant of the CRV, died at the scene.
The Chrysler van was carrying six individuals at the time. Five were killed in the crash, including driver Samuel Holmes, passenger Taylor Willis, and three children: Brynlon Holmes, 1, Addyson Holmes, 3, and Kamron Wood, 8. A 16-year-old girl, the only survivor in the van, was transported to the hospital for treatment. Her current condition has not been disclosed.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.
Troopers say the investigation into the crash remains ongoing, but no charges are expected to be filed. This heartbreaking incident has left the Charlotte community in mourning as loved ones remember the lives lost in what was meant to be a joyful day.
