Garfield Township Walmart Stabbing: 11 Injured, Suspect in Custody Following Attack

Garfield Township, MI – July 26, 2025 – A horrifying act of violence unfolded Saturday afternoon at the Walmart store in Garfield Township, Grand Traverse County, where a man armed with a knife injured 11 individuals in a brutal stabbing spree.

At approximately 4:43 p.m., Central Dispatch began receiving multiple emergency calls reporting an active stabbing incident inside the store. Within minutes, a Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Deputy, who was in close proximity, arrived on the scene at 4:46 p.m.

Upon arrival, the deputy encountered a tense situation in the parking lot where multiple brave citizens—including one armed individual—were confronting and restraining the suspect, effectively preventing further harm and detainment until law enforcement intervened. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

During the attack, eleven people were injured, including one Walmart employee. First responders, bystanders, and law enforcement officers provided immediate medical aid before the victims were transported to Munson Medical Center for further treatment. The weapon used was identified as a folding knife with a 3.5-inch blade.

  • 38-year-old male
  • 39-year-old male
  • 65-year-old female

The suspect has been identified as 42-year-old Bradford James Gille of Afton, Michigan. Gille was arrested and transported to the Grand Traverse County Jail, where he remains in custody pending formal charges and arraignment.

Authorities have indicated that requested charges include:

  • One count of terrorism
  • Eleven counts of assault with intent to murder

Gille reportedly entered the Walmart at 4:10 p.m. and remained inside until the incident erupted. While a motive has not yet been determined, law enforcement noted that Gille has a history involving assaultive behavior and prior controlled substance violations.

The response involved a coordinated effort from multiple agencies, including the Michigan State Police, Traverse City Police Department, Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office, Antrim County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, and local emergency medical and fire services.
