BROWARD COUNTY, FL — NBA forward Marcus Morris Sr. has been arrested on a fraud charge in Broward County, Florida, according to official reports. The 34-year-old, who most recently played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers, was taken into custody in South Florida, though details surrounding the alleged offense have not yet been fully released.
Morris, a 13-year NBA veteran, was a standout at the University of Kansas before being selected 14th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets. Over his lengthy professional career, he has played for a number of teams including the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Clippers, appearing in 832 games and averaging 12 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
This is not Morris’ first brush with the law. In 2012, he faced a misdemeanor battery charge, and in 2015, he and his twin brother, Markieff, were charged with aggravated assault in Arizona. Both were acquitted in that case after a jury found them not guilty.
Morris’ current legal situation remains under investigation, and no formal statement has been made by his legal representatives or the NBA. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
