Mass Shooting at Pool Party Near Hickory, NC Leaves 12 Shot, 1 Dead

HICKORY, NC — A community is in shock after a mass shooting erupted at a large pool party early Sunday morning near Hickory, North Carolina, leaving 12 people shot, including one confirmed dead and another in critical condition.

Authorities say the shooting occurred around 12:45 a.m. in the Mountain View area of Catawba County, along Walnut Acres Drive, where an estimated 100 people had gathered for a weekend celebration.

According to officials, gunfire broke out during the gathering, sending partygoers scrambling for safety in what witnesses described as a terrifying and chaotic scene. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, along with Hickory Police and agents from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, are actively investigating the incident.

In total, 12 individuals were shot:

• 1 person died at the scene
• 1 remains in critical condition
• 10 others sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and are being treated at area hospitals

As of now, no arrests have been made, and law enforcement has not released information on potential suspects or motives. Investigators are asking anyone with information, videos, or photos from the party to come forward to assist in identifying those responsible.

“This is a devastating act of violence that has deeply affected our community,” said a Catawba County official. “Our hearts go out to the families and everyone impacted by this senseless tragedy.”
