Community Mourns Ronell Agee, 44, Fatally Shot During Auburn Neighborhood Event

AUBURN, N.Y. — The Auburn community is grieving the tragic loss of Ronell Agee, a 44-year-old man who was fatally shot Saturday night during a neighborhood gathering on Chapman Avenue. The shooting occurred around 9:40 p.m., near the site of the Women’s Day Block Party, an annual community celebration.

A vigil was held Sunday night in Agee’s memory, organized by the Facebook page for the Women’s Day Block Party. Friends, family, and neighbors gathered near the scene to honor his life and mourn his passing. A growing memorial can now be seen along Chapman Avenue where the shooting took place.

According to court filings and witness accounts, Agee was checking in on a cousin when a verbal exchange escalated. A man identified as Davon M. Dixon, 35, allegedly drew a handgun and opened fire, shooting Agee multiple times. Witnesses reported hearing up to seven gunshots.

Auburn police officers, who were patrolling the area during the event, heard the shots and quickly responded. Officers Patrick LaGrow and Anthony Bucci located Dixon at the scene, where he allegedly dropped the handgun on command and was taken into custody without resistance. A large crowd of over 100 people gathered as officers made the arrest.

Dixon has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Agee was rushed to Auburn Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Though the Auburn Police Department has not officially released Agee’s name, court affidavits obtained by The Citizen confirmed his identity and detailed the sequence of events that led to the deadly shooting.

As the investigation continues, community members are calling for justice and peace in the wake of this senseless violence. Organizers and loved ones describe Agee as a caring individual whose presence will be deeply missed.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is urged to contact the Auburn Police Department at (315) 253-3231.

A city mourns, a family grieves, and a community remembers Ronell Agee — a life taken far too soon.
