Police Officer Samuel Riveros and Civilian Killed in LA County Shooting; Second Officer Injured

Baldwin Park, CA  — A tragic series of events unfolded in Baldwin Park on the evening of May 31, leaving a Baldwin Park police Officer Samuel Riveros, and a civilian dead, and another officer wounded. The deadly encounter took place in the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue, drawing a massive law enforcement response.

According to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, Baldwin Park police were responding to reports of a deadly shooting in the area when the situation escalated. Upon arrival, officers were met with gunfire.

Officer Samuel Riveros, who responded to the call, was fatally shot during the incident. Riveros, remembered by colleagues as a dedicated public servant and respected member of the force, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

A second officer, Anthony Pimentel, was also struck by gunfire and remains hospitalized in stable condition, according to Baldwin Park Police Chief Robert López.

In addition to the fallen officer, authorities confirmed that a civilian was also killed in the shooting. Details surrounding the civilian’s identity and involvement have not yet been released.

Law enforcement officials have arrested one suspect in connection with the shooting. The individual is currently in custody as investigators continue to piece together the timeline and motive behind the violence.

“This is a heartbreaking day for our department and our community,” said Chief López. “Officer Riveros gave his life in service of others, and we honor his courage and sacrifice.”

As the Baldwin Park community mourns this senseless loss, tributes for Officer Riveros are pouring in from across the region. Flags at police departments throughout Los Angeles County have been lowered to half-staff in his memory.

Authorities have not released further details on the suspect or charges filed. The investigation is ongoing, led by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in coordination with Baldwin Park police.
