Earon Criswell Killed in Coles County Mini Bike Crash

COLES COUNTY, Il— The Coles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred late in the evening on Tuesday, July 23.

At approximately 11:07 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a collision on Old State Road near County Road 400 East. Upon arrival, officials discovered that a 2014 Ford SUV had been traveling eastbound on Old State Road when it struck a mini bike.

The mini bike operator was identified as 35-year-old Earon Criswell of Mattoon. He sustained critical injuries in the crash and was airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana by the Air Evac Life Team. Despite medical efforts, Criswell died from his injuries two days later.

The Coles County Sheriff’s Department stated that the incident remains under active investigation, and no further details about the circumstances of the crash have been released at this time.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene and assisted in the investigation, including the Mattoon Police Department, Lake Land College Police Department, Mitchell Jerdan EMS, Mattoon Fire Department, Coles-Moultrie 911, and Air Evac.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any citations or charges are pending.
