Michael Paul Brown, Suspect in Anaconda Owl Bar Shooting, Struggled with Untreated Mental Health Issues

ANACONDA, Mont. — A multi-agency manhunt remains underway across Anaconda and neighboring areas following a horrific mass shooting at The Owl Bar that claimed the lives of four people early Friday morning.

Authorities have identified the primary suspect as 45-year-old Michael Paul Brown of Anaconda. Law enforcement officials say Brown fled the scene after the deadly rampage and remains at large.

The shooting occurred at The Owl Bar, located on 3rd Street, where responding officers found multiple victims with fatal gunshot wounds. Details about the victims have not yet been released as authorities work to notify their families.

According to investigators and sources familiar with the case, Brown had a history of longstanding and untreated mental health issues, which may have played a role in the tragic events. Community members described him as increasingly erratic in recent months, with some expressing concerns over his behavior prior to the incident.

Local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies are now coordinating efforts to locate Brown. The public is urged to remain vigilant, avoid approaching the suspect, and contact authorities immediately with any information regarding his whereabouts.

“This is a deeply tragic situation,” said one official. “We are doing everything we can to bring the suspect into custody and provide answers and justice for the victims and their families.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Police Department or their nearest law enforcement agency.
