Joshua Mizula Samso, 17, Remembered After Tragic Crash in Deerfield

DEERFIELD, Mass. — The community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 17-year-old Joshua Mizula Samso, a Hatfield resident and rising senior at Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School, who tragically died in a rollover crash on Sunday in Deerfield.

A memorial has since been set up on Greenfield Road near the crash site. It features photographs of Josh, along with heartfelt notes and tributes from friends, classmates, and loved ones. The growing tribute reflects the impact Josh had on those around him.

Josh was studying to become an automotive technician and was known for his passion for hands-on learning, his kind heart, and his bright future.

In a statement to 22News, the school’s superintendent expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss, extending condolences to Josh’s family and friends. Grief counselors have been made available throughout the week for students and staff.

“We know grief and loss is difficult to process, and we all respond differently,” the statement read. “I encourage anyone to reach out for support, and I want to ensure we remain connected as a school.”

In response to the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help ease the financial burden on Josh’s family. The fundraiser has already raised over $26,000, a testament to the outpouring of support from the community.

Joshua Mizula Samso is remembered not only as a student, but as a cherished friend and beloved son whose memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
