James Jennings Identified as Suspect Killed in Shootout with Michigan State Police

MICHIGAN — The Michigan State Police (MSP) have identified the man who was killed during an armed standoff and shootout with troopers Thursday night as 54-year-old James Jennings.

Authorities say the incident began when troopers responded to a reported domestic assault. Upon arrival, Jennings barricaded himself inside the residence, prompting a standoff with law enforcement.

MSP stated that Jennings was heavily armed during the confrontation. A shootout ensued, and Jennings was fatally struck when troopers returned fire. The victim of the domestic assault was able to escape the home and seek help before the situation escalated further.

The incident remains under investigation by MSP’s internal review unit and additional agencies to determine the full circumstances surrounding the deadly encounter.
