Fatal Attempted ATM Robbery in Murfreesboro Claims Life of Suspect Tyrese Walder; Four Others Apprehended in Arkansas

MURFREESBORO, TN – A bold and violent attempted ATM robbery at a 7-Eleven in Murfreesboro ended in tragedy and arrests, as authorities confirmed that Tyrese Walder, 23, was fatally shot during the incident early Friday morning. Four other suspects connected to the crime have since been captured in Arkansas, according to the Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD).

The group reportedly arrived at the convenience store on East Northfield Boulevard in a white pickup truck equipped with a guy wire. Surveillance footage and eyewitnesses confirmed that the suspects used a sledgehammer to smash a window before wrapping the guy wire around the ATM and attempting to drag it from its foundation with the truck.

During the course of the attempted theft, a customer inside the store opened fire, striking Walder. He died at the scene from his injuries. The other suspects fled before police arrived.

Using license plate readers and support from crime analysts, MPD tracked the suspects’ vehicle, issuing a nationwide alert. On Friday, Arkansas State Police located the suspects driving an SUV and apprehended all four individuals. Investigators believe the group was returning to Texas when they were intercepted.

The four arrested individuals are now in custody in Arkansas, awaiting extradition back to Tennessee, where they will face charges related to the failed robbery and Walder’s death.

MPD continues to investigate the incident in cooperation with law enforcement agencies across state lines.
