PINEVILLE, N.C. — The Pineville Police Department has confirmed the tragic death of Jose Roberto Ferreira, who was shot and killed early Saturday evening at an apartment complex on the city’s south side. A suspect is now in custody.
Authorities say officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon around 6:00 p.m. at The Brook apartment complex, located off Johnston Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered 37-year-old Ferreira inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the swift efforts of first responders, Ferreira was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, 23-year-old Johann Manuel Ibarra, reportedly fled the scene before police arrived. He was later located and apprehended without incident at a nearby gas station. Pineville Police confirmed Sunday night that Ibarra was being interviewed in connection with the homicide.
Investigators believe the shooting was not a random act, noting that Ferreira and Ibarra were known to each other. No additional details regarding the motive have been released, and authorities have not yet disclosed whether charges have been formally filed.
Ferreira’s death has left a somber cloud over the community and among those who knew him. Friends and neighbors are mourning the sudden loss of a man described as quiet, kind, and hardworking.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Pineville Police Department as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to this senseless act of violence.
