PHOENIX, AZ — A devastating multi-vehicle crash in west Phoenix has claimed the lives of two individuals and left another hospitalized early Sunday morning, August 3, 2025.
Emergency responders from the Phoenix Fire Department were dispatched to the scene of the collision near 57th Avenue and Indian School Road around 6:00 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found three people in need of urgent care and had to perform an extrication to remove them from the wreckage.
Tragically, 44-year-old Phyliss Wauneka was pronounced dead at the scene. Antonio Wauneka, 37, was rushed to the hospital in extremely critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries, leaving family, friends, and the community heartbroken by the sudden and tragic loss of two lives.
The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash, whose name has not been released, was transported to the hospital as a precaution and is expected to recover.
At this time, authorities have not provided further information about the cause of the collision. The incident remains under active investigation as officials work to determine what led to this tragic outcome.
The Wauneka family’s loss is being felt deeply by those who knew Phyliss and Antonio, remembered for their warmth, kindness, and presence in their community.
