MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. — Tragedy struck Sunday afternoon along the Colorado River when two men drowned while swimming near Topock Gorge, a scenic area just south of Lake Havasu.
According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the incident around 2:15 p.m. after receiving a report from a boater who had flagged down another vessel for help. Witnesses said two swimmers had gone underwater near a beach area along the river and did not resurface.
Rescue and recovery efforts were immediately launched, but unfortunately, both men were later found deceased.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, and the circumstances leading to the drowning remain under investigation. The area, while popular for recreation, is known to have strong currents and sudden drop-offs, which can pose dangers to swimmers.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident and urges all rivergoers to exercise caution and wear life jackets while swimming or boating in the area.
