JACKSONVILLE, NC — The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office has identified the body discovered in the New River on the morning of Monday, August 4, 2025, as Aaron Gage Stallings, a 29-year-old resident of Jacksonville.
Authorities were alerted around 7 a.m. when a local fisherman called to report a body spotted several hundred yards upstream from the Herbert G. “Buddy” Phillips Bridge.
Emergency personnel from the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, Jacksonville Police Department, Jacksonville Fire and Emergency Services, and the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission quickly responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, Stallings’ body was recovered from the river. The cause of death is currently unknown and is pending results from an autopsy.
Officials say the investigation remains active and ongoing, with updates to follow as more information becomes available.
