Suspect Identified in Officer-Involved Shooting; Public Asked for Help
Missouri — Authorities have identified Thomas Eugene Tolbert as the suspect in a violent shooting incident that left a police officer seriously injured late Sunday night. Investigators are asking anyone with information on Tolbert’s whereabouts to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., when officers were dispatched to the 3500 block of SW Hollywood Drive in response to a domestic disturbance call at an apartment complex.
According to police, as the first officer arrived on scene and was waiting for backup, he observed a male suspect fleeing the area on foot. The officer initiated a foot pursuit, during which he quickly radioed in that shots had been fired.
Crucially, the officer did not fire his weapon, but he was struck multiple times by gunfire. Emergency responders transported the officer to a nearby trauma center, where he is being treated for serious injuries. His condition remains undisclosed at this time.
Through investigative efforts and witness statements, police have developed Thomas Eugene Tolbert as the suspect in this case. Multiple witnesses reported seeing the suspect flee the area in a vehicle following the shooting. Law enforcement agencies throughout the region are actively coordinating to locate and apprehend Tolbert.
Authorities have stated there is no ongoing danger to the immediate area surrounding the original scene.
