ARREST MADE IN EARLY MORNING SHOOTING ON SOUTH 6TH STREET IN GREENVILLE

GREENVILLE, MS — A verbal dispute between two individuals escalated into gunfire on the morning of Wednesday, June 4, 2025, leaving one man injured and another in custody, according to the Greenville Police Department.

At approximately 9:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South 6th Street following a 911 call reporting a shooting. When law enforcement arrived on the scene, they located a 34-year-old male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the arm. Emergency medical services arrived shortly afterward and transported the victim to a local hospital. Authorities have confirmed that the injury, while serious, is not life-threatening, and the victim is expected to recover.

Preliminary investigations at the scene revealed that the shooting was the result of a heated altercation between the victim and 63-year-old Elbert Foules, a resident of Greenville. Witnesses told police that the two men were involved in an argument that rapidly intensified. During the confrontation, Foules allegedly produced a firearm and discharged at least one shot, striking the younger man.

Officers swiftly secured the area and gathered multiple witness statements. Based on those accounts and supporting evidence, investigators were able to identify and locate Foules shortly after the incident. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Washington County Detention Center.

Foules has been formally charged with one count of Aggravated Assault, a felony offense under Mississippi law. At this time, he is being held awaiting his initial court appearance, where a judge will determine bond and further proceedings. The Greenville Police Department stated that Foules is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

In a statement released to the public, Greenville Police emphasized their commitment to ensuring public safety and the importance of de-escalating conflicts before they turn violent. “This incident is a stark reminder of how quickly everyday disputes can spiral into dangerous situations when weapons are involved,” a department spokesperson said. “We urge community members to seek peaceful resolutions and to report conflicts before they escalate.”

Police are continuing to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including the events leading up to the argument. At this time, no other suspects are being sought, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Authorities are encouraging any individuals who may have witnessed the incident or have additional information to come forward. Tips can be provided anonymously to the Greenville Police Department or Crime Stoppers.

The shooting has drawn concern from residents in the area, who say they are troubled by the growing number of violent incidents involving personal disputes. As the investigation continues, many are hoping for justice to be served and for healing to begin for those affected.
