  • BRPD Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting on Washington Avenue

BATON ROUGE, LA – The Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) Homicide Division is actively investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the early hours of the morning on Washington Avenue, leaving one person dead and raising questions across the community.

At approximately 3:42 a.m., BRPD officers responded to a disturbance call at a residence in the 5100 block of Washington Ave. The caller reported that an emotionally distressed individual, believed to be under the influence of narcotics, was causing concern and posing a possible threat.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a 38-year-old male subject holding a sharp object, escalating the situation into a potentially dangerous encounter. According to BRPD, officers attempted to de-escalate the situation using non-lethal means and deployed a Taser in an effort to subdue the individual. Unfortunately, the Taser proved ineffective.

As the confrontation intensified, one officer discharged their firearm, striking the subject. Officers immediately administered emergency medical aid and called for EMS. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending family notification.

As per department policy, the two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation unfolds. BRPD emphasizes that this is standard protocol in any incident involving the use of deadly force.

“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” BRPD stated. “We are committed to transparency and will provide additional details as they become available.”

The incident has sparked both concern and calls for clarity within the Baton Rouge community, especially regarding the handling of mental health and substance-related crises. Local leaders and residents alike are urging for a thorough and transparent investigation.

Anyone with information or questions about the case is encouraged to contact the Baton Rouge Police Department.

As the city awaits more answers, one family is left mourning the loss of a loved one, and a department prepares to navigate the difficult aftermath of yet another tragic encounter.

  • A Hero Lost in the Floods: Remembering Julian Ryan

TEXAS — In the early hours of Friday morning, amidst the roaring chaos of flash floods that engulfed parts of the Texas Hill Country, a young man gave his life in the most selfless way possible—protecting his family. Julian Ryan, just 27 years old, died a hero in a flood tragedy that has left the community of Ingram grieving and the entire state mourning the loss of a brave soul taken far too soon.

As floodwaters from the rapidly rising Guadalupe River swept through the region, Julian’s family became trapped inside their mobile home. The water surged with terrifying speed and force, giving residents little time to react. Inside the home were his fiancée, their children, and his mother-in-law—all at risk as the dark floodwaters climbed higher and higher.

    Julian didn’t hesitate.

With no thought for his own safety, he smashed a window and began getting his loved ones—and even their pets—to the roof of the home. It was a desperate race against the rising current, but Julian was determined. In the process, he suffered a deep and severe injury to his arm. Despite the wound, he continued helping his family until everyone was out of the water’s reach.

But Julian’s injury was grave. Isolated by floodwaters and without access to immediate help, he began to lose blood rapidly. Trapped on a rooftop and growing weaker, he had only moments left. In that time, he reached out to his sister—offering comfort even as his own life slipped away.

    “Are you okay?” he asked.

    “I’m scared,” she replied.

    “Me too,” he whispered.

Those would be Julian’s final words. Quiet. Honest. Brave.

Julian Ryan’s death is not just a personal loss for his family—it is a heartbreak for the entire community. In the middle of a disaster, he chose love over fear, action over hesitation. His story is a reminder that heroes walk among us. They are fathers. Brothers. Sons. Partners. And sometimes, they are young men like Julian, who give everything so others can live.

His loved ones are safe today because of him. And though the flood took Julian’s life, it did not take his spirit.

As the town of Ingram and surrounding communities begin the long road to recovery after this devastating natural disaster, the memory of Julian Ryan stands as a symbol of true courage and sacrifice. A GoFundMe has been established by family friends to assist with funeral costs and to support his children, who now face life without their father—their hero.

Please keep Julian’s family in your thoughts and prayers, and remember the name Julian Ryan—a man who gave his all, and whose final act on this earth was love.

🕊️ Rest in peace, Julian. You are deeply loved, and never forgotten.
