ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. — A tragic accident in the early hours of Wednesday has claimed the life of a 16-year-old Breaux Bridge teen following a collision involving an electric scooter and a car on Louisiana Highway 347.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop I, troopers were dispatched to the scene just south of Jolie Blonde Road shortly after midnight on July 23, 2025. The victim, identified as Da’Marion Lagrange, was riding an electric scooter northbound in the southbound lane of the highway. Officials say the scooter was not equipped with lights and Lagrange was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

As Lagrange traveled against the flow of traffic, he was struck from behind by a 2015 Chrysler 300, which was legally passing another vehicle in a designated passing zone. The driver of the Chrysler, who was properly restrained, was not injured and voluntarily submitted to a breath test, which showed no presence of alcohol, authorities said.

Lagrange sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. A toxicology sample was collected from Lagrange and is currently being analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.
