    It is with deep sorrow and overwhelming grief that we share the tragic loss of Anthony Barrera, 24, and Alek Pacheco, 20, whose lives were senselessly taken during a violent incident in Downtown San Marcos in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 19, 2025.

    The San Marcos Police Department responded to a distressing call at approximately 1:30 a.m., initially reported as a stabbing near a local downtown bar. Upon arrival, officers discovered that both Anthony and Alek had sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head. Anthony Barrera was pronounced deceased at the scene. Alek Pacheco was transported to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. A third individual was also injured in the shooting but survived after being treated for a gunshot wound to the foot.

    This act of violence stemmed from a confrontation that began inside the bar and escalated outside at the intersection of East San Antonio Street and Guadalupe Street. According to police, tensions rose when Anthony Barrera, who was reportedly in a relationship with a woman still legally married, was confronted by her husband. The situation escalated, involving additional individuals, including someone who forcibly removed a necklace from Barrera—prompting a physical altercation that ultimately led to the fatal gunfire.

    Authorities have arrested Jermiah Jayden Tobias, 19, on two counts of capital murder and one count of aggravated assault. His bail has been set at $1.65 million. Additionally, a 16-year-old male was taken into custody Saturday evening in connection with a previous aggravated robbery. Police are actively searching for Avery Saul Bowman, 19, believed to be connected to the incident, as well as a witness who may have recorded critical footage of the shooting.

    Anthony and Alek were young men with their lives ahead of them. Anthony was known for his warm, loyal spirit and strong sense of family. Alek was remembered by friends for his easy smile, quiet strength, and generous heart. Their tragic and untimely deaths have left a void that can never be filled, and their families, friends, and the San Marcos community are now left to mourn the loss of two lives ended far too soon.

    At approximately 3:30 a.m., Springfield Police responded to a residence on Holly Drive where they discovered Rekeea suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a local hospital but was sadly pronounced deceased at 4:08 a.m., shortly after her arrival.

    An autopsy conducted on Sunday by Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon revealed that Rekeea died from injuries related to the gunshot. The Sangamon County Coroner’s Office and the Springfield Police Department continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

    Rekeea was known for her vibrant personality, unwavering strength, and the deep love she held for her family and community. Those who knew her remember her for her kindness, resilience, and the way she made others feel heard and valued. She was a daughter, a mother, a friend—and above all, a woman whose life deserved far more than this tragic end.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, Virgil lost control of his motorcycle and ran off the road. No other vehicles were involved. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

    Virgil was a proud Kentuckian whose love for the open road reflected his independent spirit and enduring zest for life. Friends and family remember him as a kind-hearted man with a gentle soul, a storyteller, and someone who found peace and freedom on two wheels. His passing has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

    An Amber Alert was issued early Sunday morning after authorities determined Melina had been taken under circumstances that suggested she was in imminent danger. She was last seen around 9:40 p.m. Saturday night on Interstate 87 near Exit 22, wearing light-colored shorts, a black and white striped shirt, and white Adidas sneakers.

    Melina had brown hair, brown eyes, stood about 5 feet tall, and weighed approximately 100 pounds. Her sudden disappearance triggered an urgent search effort led by New York State Police, supported by local and regional law enforcement.

    Tragically, Melina was later found deceased in Ticonderoga, marking the end of a frantic and deeply distressing search. Authorities have not released the identity of a suspect, and the circumstances surrounding her abduction remain under investigation. Law enforcement noted inconsistencies in the account given by her father, which are now part of the ongoing inquiry.

    The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. in the 200 block of Southpark Road. According to the Lafayette Police Department, Blaze was driving westbound when his vehicle, for reasons still under investigation, veered off the north side of the road. The vehicle struck a culvert, crossed American Boulevard, and collided with a tree before becoming engulfed in flames.

    Emergency responders from the Lafayette Fire Department arrived swiftly and worked to extract Blaze from the burning vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

    Blaze was known to many as a spirited, kind-hearted young man who brought warmth and energy to every space he entered. His untimely passing has left his family, friends, and community devastated. In just 24 years, Blaze left behind cherished memories and touched many lives with his generous nature and vibrant soul.
